You Are a Child of God – Loved and Valued

Jesus tells you not to worry because you are valuable. When you worry, you subtly strive to find your life’s worth in

  • what you do
  • what you have
  • who you are
  • what you can provide

Do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Matthew 6:25-26

You can find your value in who you are. You are a child of the King. Jesus invites you out of your endless worries and into the security of the Father’s great love.

The value God places on His children far exceeds the rest of creation, but sometimes it can be a struggle to believe that truth and that lack of faith leads to worry. Don’t underestimate the great power of God to provide for your needs. Ask God to strengthen your faith and to fix your eyes on Him.

Safe and Secure

God, hear my cry; listen to my prayer. I call to you from the ends of the earth when I am afraid. Carry me away to a high mountain. You have been my protection, like a strong tower against my enemies.

Psalm 61:1 NCV

If you let him, God will draw you near to him and wrap you in his arms. Relax, rest in Him, feel secure in His ability to help. Remember He is your Father, shield, and your protection in times of need.

Choose to Live a Life of Joy Despite Your Circumstances

You believe in him and are filled with an inexpressible and glorious joy.

1 Peter 1:8

Living a life of joy is a great goal for everyone. That doesn’t mean that we’ll be happy every day of our lives and that everything will go exactly as planned, or that we won’t have any problems. Joy is more than momentary happiness when something exciting happens.

True joy is being content in our circumstances. It’s a commitment to trust in the one who loves us so much that He gave His life for us. Joy brings a special and inexplicable peace. Peace is a deep sense of contentment that comes from spending time in God’s presence, studying the Bible, and praying.

As we spend time with God and follow the path He has laid out for us, we discover the true joy that can only be found in Him.

A Thankful Heart is a Happy Heart

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 NLT

We must read this verse carefully. “This is God’s will for you” does not refer to all of life’s circumstances but to the important attitude we must cultivate in all circumstances - thankfulness. Being thankful is a heart issue, not a circumstantial one. We can’t always change our circumstances, but we can always choose to be thankful to God.

Cultivating a habit of being thankful in, not for, all things is liberating. A thankful heart is not a prisoner to life’s curve balls.

It’s easy to not always be thankful in all circumstances, but you can pray to change that. Ask God to help you be thankful in spite of your difficult circumstances, simply because you belong to Him. Nothing compares to that!
