Through the Eyes of a Rocker’s Journal

Tom Short: Craving Community Part 1: Monday Night – June 6

I forgot my pen. Luckily, Dani had an extra one.

Tom Short said that we are spending time with God when we are sharing the Gospel. Wow! I never thought of it that way. If I am spending time with God, shouldn’t I face my fears then because he is with me?

“God can use your words, but he can’t use your silence.” –Tom Short

How many times have I remained silent? I thought of my coworkers that just started at my job. Was I being diligent with outreaching to them?

Tom Short: Craving Community Part 2: Tuesday Night – June 7

Tom Short gave us a scale of where people normally are in their walk with Christ, and how close they are to accepting Him. He said that we should be specific when we are praying for people, and we should ask God specifically for people to take the next step towards Christ. Afterwards, there was a Q&A.

I raised my hand and asked, “What would be a good way to outreach to my Muslim co-worker.” Tom Short gave me his book and signed it for her. He told me that it would be best to give it to her tomorrow if possible.

After eating at Wendy’s, my roommate, JT, and I sat in a car discussing everything Tom Short talked about.

Wednesday – June 8

Alarm set for 6 a.m. I woke up at 7. I opened up to Psalms.

Turn and answer me, O Lord my God! Restore the sparkle to my eyes, or I will die. Don’t let my enemies gloat, saying, “We have defeated him!” Don’t let them rejoice at my downfall. Psalm 13:3-4 NLT

At work, I kept chickening out of every opportunity I had.

“Listen to God, Zach. Do what he said,” I keep telling myself.

The time keeps ticking away. It’s the end of our shift.

“God, help me not to be scared,” I thought.

“Hey, I listened to a speaker last night. He was giving away this book, and it made me think of you. I even got him to sign it for you,” I said to my coworker.

Eagerly she took it and thanked me.

That night, we had Small Group at Elmwood Park. Levi and I went on a prayer walk through the forest in Elmwood.

Thursday Morning – June 9

I woke up on time! I went on a prayer walk. The ability to pray for people to take direct steps in their faith was so encouraging. I’m glad Tom Short talked about it. When I got back, I read in Psalms.

I am praying to you because I know you will answer, O God. Bend down and listen as I pray. Psalm 17:10 (NLT)

We went to Matt and Janna’s apartment for friend rice. We topped off the night with Sonic.

Friday morning – June 10

I woke up early today again. I was able to go on a prayer walk. I also read Psalm and Proverbs.

My child, don’t lose sight of common sense and discernment. Hang on to them…They keep you safe on your way, and your feet will not stumble. Proverbs 3: 21, 23 NLT

Later that night, JT and I went to the Switchfoot and Lecrae concert. There were other Rockers in different sections as well. JT made a banner to wave around that said, “Where I Belong.” JT put up his banner, and the lead singer started singing “Where I Belong” in the middle of “Dare you to Move.” The night was fantastic!

Saturday Morning – June 11

After reading Psalms, I took off the go to Burger King to set up. The Rock washed cars to raise money for the Building Together Campaign. Through sun burns and wet shoes, we grew closer together. We ended the night by swimming and watching two movies.

Come join us for LT throughout the week. Grow closer. Build friendships. Feel God’s love through the community of His followers, and have fun! Monday and Tuesday will be Experience Nights.
