It is an exciting and thrilling time in the history of Candlewood Church. God has been preparing us for more than 20 years to be at this place and time as a church with the Building Together Campaign. We are building together towards and even greater impact on our communities for the Gospel of Jesus Christ. There were baptisms recently in Lincoln, and they illustrate what we are about as a church. These individuals encountered Christ and were transformed by him. They are now having an impact on the people around them and in our communities, which leads to more people knowing about Jesus Christ, one life at a time.
Determining Your Pledge Amount
On May 1st, we will begin collecting your Pledge Cards, which will let us know the amount you plan to give over the three-year campaign. Praying and thinking through how you should be involved is a huge decision. We recommend the following process to guide you through this decision:
From the beginning, prayer has been the main focus of the Building Together Campaign and should be the main focus for you determining your pledge amount. As the apostle Paul says in 2 Corinthians 9, “You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” It doesn’t matter how much or how little the pledge is, because what matters is that God leads you to give sacrificially in faith. Each and every gift is between a person and God. When given in faith, each and every gift is significant, whether it is $5 per week or $500 per week.
2.) Look at the giving chart and your budget and determine an amount you can give.
3.) Ask God to show you a way to give the next higher amount on the chart. Here are a few of the ways you could get to the next higher amount:
- re-organize your budget,
- cut back on budget lines,
- postpone expenses like the purchase of a vehicle or a vacation,
- sell items you don’t use,
- give from a tax refund, bonus, or overtime pay, or
- give an investment like stocks or bonds, physical property, or savings.
4.) Continue this process of prayer and increase your amount until God no longer shows you how to give more.
5.) Take one more step and seek an amount that will take faith to give, which may be a step beyond what you can see right here and right now.
6.) When you come to what you believe is the amount to pledge over the next three years, there are a couple questions you can ask yourself:
- Am I joyful about giving this amount?
- Is my gift sacrificial?
- Am I demonstrating faith with this amount?
- Am I convinced I can give this amount with a motivation of worshiping God?
- Am I thankful for this opportunity to step out in faith?
If the answers to these questions are a “yes,” you have come to the right amount.
We are looking forward to Commitment Sunday on May 1st and the next three years of this campaign. We trust that you will take a tremendous step of faith as your give generously and sacrificially to Building Together. What an incredible opportunity to take part in what God is doing in our cities, in both Omaha and Lincoln.
God has been faithful to our church, leading us and changing lives, and we are confident that He will continue to be our pillar for many years to come as we expand our territory for an even greater impact.
