Secret Sin that You Shouldn’t Ignore

Many people aspire to be good, honest, and lead a life of integrity; however, Jesus says that the only way to live a truly good life is to stay close to him, like a branch attached to the vine. Apart from Christ, every effort is unfruitful. 

 

Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit, apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me and I in you, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 

John 15:4-6

 

Just as a branch cut away from a tree can no longer grow or produce fruit, you cannot grow or produce the fruit of the Spirit if you are disconnected from Jesus.

How to Receive Proper Nourishment 

 

When you are connected to Jesus, then you will stay nourished and produce the fruits of the Spirit. You must know him, love him, remember him, and imitate him. 

 

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. 

Galatians 5:22-23

 

We desperately need the fruit of the Spirit in our lives! We can’t produce them on our own. The desires of human flesh constantly oppose the will of the Holy Spirit. We are a fallen people. Our human nature is destructive and self-centered while the fruit of the Spirit is productive and self-giving. 

 

Who Do You Live For? 

 

Needless to say, when you give into your flesh, your sin, your evil desires, your wrongdoings, you are without a doubt choosing to neglect God!

 

The acts of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery, idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. 

Galatians 5:19

 

We all have desires that we know are wrong. Some of us try hard to resist. Some of us have a favorite sin that we like to keep close. Some of us look sin directly in the eye and smile. You can’t ignore them! God sees everything. He knows everything. 

 

In order to follow the Holy Spirit, you must allow God to shine light on your “secret” sins that you think you have hidden and locked away. Crucify them! Put out those passions and desires, and you will experience true freedom and immeasurable joy that only come from Christ. 

 

Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires, greed, which is idolatry.

Colossians 3:5

 

Remember that God is the Creator of sexual fulfillment and sexual intimacy, which is a beautiful and essential piece of marriage. God’s Word clearly celebrates a heterosexual, monogamous marriage. The rest is dangerous and futile. Sexual sin hurts 

  • God because you are showing him that you prefer following the hunger of your flesh rather than his Word
  • others because it violates the commitment to a relationship
  • you physically because it can often bring diseases 
  • your personality since you have harmed yourself mentally and spiritually 

 

Flee from sexual immorality. All other sins a person commits are outside the body, but whoever sins sexually, sins against their own body.

Conceal and Carry Sin No More

 

Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy. 

Proverbs 28:13

 

It’s our nature to try to hide our sins. By acknowledging your sins, you can learn from them. First you must admit your wrong, confess it, analyze it, and make the appropriate and necessary adjustments so that it’s not repeated. 

 

If you constantly choose to selfishly give into your flesh day after day, it’s time to reflect. Maybe you have not truly surrendered your life and received the gift of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit leads you to a transformed life, giving you the strength to overcome. 

 

No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful, he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. 

1 Corinthians 10:13

 

Sleeper, wake up! Rise. Run away from temptation into the shelter of his wings. He will provide you victory.

Live Your Best Life

 

God knows best and has guidelines in place for your benefit. With God, you can live your best life. He has wisdom, guidance, and encouragement for you to achieve everything you were made to be! And it’s no mystery. It is found in His Word. 

 

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.  

Philippians 4:8

 

People of the world living for themselves – their career, the next hit, public recognition, money – will always be wanderers searching for meaning and purpose. And they will never find it on their own. 

 

Allow God to nourish you like the branch of a tree. Ask him for the strength to always stay connected so you can continue growing and producing good fruit. God is all you need in this life and the one to come.
