Memory Madness 2026-2027

omaha church kids ministry awana program

At Candlewood Church, we’re excited to kick off a new year of Memory Madness in Sunday School! This year, kids work through the green Awana HangGlider book (the green book)— and once they finish it, move on to the Wing Runner book (blue book).

Here’s how it works: each child gets their own book, which they’ll take home and bring back to Sunday School each week. Returning students simply pick up where they left off last year. The book is designed to help kids hide God’s Word in their hearts in a fun, structured way.

Memorization Expectations

Each week, we ask kids to memorize no more than five verses — just enough to challenge them but not overwhelm them. We want true learning, not cramming, so memorizing two minutes before class doesn’t count — we really want these verses to sink in.

Bring the book each week so a teacher can sign off on memorized verses. Forgot it? No problem — just memorize two verses the following week instead (we can’t sign off without the book in hand). Lost it? Check with Candlewood or order a replacement through the Awana website, and your child can pick up right where they left off. Each child needs their own book — they can’t be shared.

And for parents who love using music to help kids memorize, there are YouTube videos that sing the verses as songs — a great tool to make this even more fun at home.

Why Do We Encourage Memorizing Scripture?

This is a simple, meaningful way for us to partner together as a church to build a strong foundation of Scripture in our kids’ lives. It builds God’s Word into your kid’s heart.

And of course, kids love working toward something fun! This year, they’ll earn a reward at the halfway point of their book and another when they finish it — their choice of candy or a $5 gift card. Every child who completes a book will also get a medal at this year’s Memory Madness Ceremony.

Next Steps

Memory Madness kicks off September 6th! Make sure your child brings their book to Sunday School every week from then on. New to the program or need a book? Just reach out to your Sunday School teacher, or contact kids@candlewoodchurch.org.

We can’t wait to see how God uses this in the lives of our kids!
