At Candlewood Church, we are so excited to share with you a new opportunity we’re offering for our kids — Memory Madness with the Awana Sparks Green Book, Book 1.
Here’s how it will work: each child will get their very own book for just $5, and they will take it home with them. The book is designed to help kids hide God’s Word in their hearts in a fun, structured way.
Memorization Expectations
Each week, we’ll ask kids to memorize no more than five verses per week — just enough to challenge them but not overwhelm them. We also want to encourage true learning, not cramming, so memorizing verses two minutes before club time doesn’t count — we really want the kids to let these verses sink in.
Then, they’ll bring their books back each week so we can celebrate what they’ve learned together.
And for parents who love using music to help kids memorize, there are YouTube videos that sing the verses as songs — a great tool to make this even more fun at home.
Why Do We Encourage Memorizing Scripture?
This is a simple, meaningful way for us to partner together as a church to build a strong foundation of Scripture in our kids’ lives.
And of course, kids love working toward something fun, so we will also be offering prizes along the way. These will not be the traditional Awana vests, pins, or jewels — instead, we’ll have our own prize system that we think the kids will be really excited about!
Next Steps
To get started, we will have an open purchasing window where families can buy their books. That window will stay open for one month so everyone has plenty of time to participate. After that, the purchase window will close, and books will not be available for sale until we open the next purchasing period later in the year.
This helps us stay organized, makes sure everyone starts around the same time, and allows us to celebrate progress together as a group.
