Meeting Needs in Our Community: PPE For NE

The Coronavirus has changed our world drastically over the past couple of months. Many are fearful, many businesses have closed, and many plans have been canceled. And while this pandemic has moved across our country it has brought about many needs in our community. PPE is one of the many businesses taking action.

Followers of Christ ask ourselves during this time, how would Jesus want us to serve those around us, and meet those needs? Candlewood Church has put on initiatives to help meet needs, such as encouraging people to write letters to nursing home residents, and hosting a critical needs drive for the Open Door Mission. But many individuals have also been using their unique abilities and resources to meet the unique needs of this time.

One example of this is Candlewood Church members Matt Spaustat and Matt VanZante, along with friend Jordan Points, who recently launched PPE for NE, a collaborative of 3D printers and community volunteers who are working together to meet the needs of Nebraska hospitals, clinics, first responders and neighboring communities by printing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

PPE for NE has been using 3D printers to print face shields that medical staff use as an added barrier as they work with patients during these hectic times. These shields are helping to fill the gap left by the lack of medical equipment available due to increased demand. PPE for NE has already printed and donated over 2,000 face shields to area hospitals and organizations!

How You Can Help

To help connect printers with those in need, like the PPE For NE Facebook page, and share it online. Also pray for the volunteers and their families, as they are meeting critical needs of this time.

Additionally, the cost of supplies to create, assemble and disinfect every shield comes to about $1 per shield. With the overwhelming need for PPE, the group will continue to print as long as able and needed, so consider supporting them by donating to their GoFundMe campaign. All in the group are volunteers so 100% of donations goes directly to supplies for printing.
