Oh, the weather outside was not quite as frightful for December, so even more of a reason for the women of Candlewood and guests to gather this month to celebrate the season, the one that brings joy to the world, for the Lord is come.
In both Omaha and Lincoln, Christmas hath fully arrived, and “it came without ribbons, tags, packages, boxes, or bags because after all, Christmas doesn’t come from a store, for Christmas means a little bit more” (Dr. Seuss – How the Grinch Stole Christmas).
And how Christmas came on that night was with plenty of food, because what is a Ladies Night – Christmas Edition without delicious delicacies, hot chocolate, and coffee?
Most of all, it came with plenty of cheer. There were games such as wrapping a box with one hand as a team and decorating a tree. That is, someone willing to be decorated as a tree. And oh, there was plenty of creativity like wrapping someone in Christmas lights and finding an outlet to let that tree shine bright. Also, what is Christmas without its fair share of ugly sweaters? Oh, there were plenty.
Fun, games, food, and ugly sweaters aside, the women of Candlewood gathered not just to have a Ladies Night. No, this night was meant for fellowship – for an opportunity to step outside our comfort zones and get to know someone better, be it a mom, who courageously stays at home with her young children, or a college student, who studies diligently, yet welcomes opportunities to share the love of Her Savior on campus, or maybe to know an international student, who is thousands of miles away from home in a new culture, or perhaps sharing simple moments of laughter with a young professional.
There was plenty of that – fellowship – and women who shared their stories of faith, how God had moved in their lives; the very same God who sent His only Son to be born of a virgin to save the world.
“For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us…And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.” – Isaiah 9:6
More Ladies Night, similar to the one described above, planned for 2016.
More info to come next year.
