We’ve been closely tracking the news of the coronavirus (COVID-19) both locally and globally. As you know, there are several confirmed cases in Omaha, NE. Because the virus is primarily spread through close contact, we want to take precautionary measures to help limit the spread.
Before getting into the details of our plan, we understand that the spread of this virus has caused great fear and anxiety. While we recognize the challenges of the situation, Scripture is clear that God has given us a spirit of love, not fear; and that He, ultimately, is in control, trustworthy and good.
Our prayer is that we would sense peace in the midst of these circumstances, as we dwell on the truth of God. This does not mean we should be careless or reactionary; rather, may we work together to serve our church and community, and do so in a spirit that demonstrates trust in our God who is in control, and points people to the hope we have in Jesus Christ.
The pastors are monitoring updates from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Nebraska Department of Health, as well as local officials and medical professionals to formulate a preparedness plan. The situation is rapidly evolving, and we will continue to diligently monitor the situation. We understand the potential for a rapidly escalating situation, and we will be communicating updates as needed at candlewoodchurch.org/coronavirus, via email (sign up here), and on Social Media.
Sunday Service Updates
The Nebraska Department of Health recently recommended limiting the size of events and public gatherings to less than 250 people. While our gatherings do not have that many at one time, we do have that many people in our building throughout the day on Sundays, which is why out of an abundance of caution we will not be having our Sunday services during the remainder of the month of March.
Candlewood Church is Going Live
Instead we will be live streaming a sermon on our Facebook page at 9:15am. The church will be open for any who wish to be present during this time, but please note that Sunday School, Nursery, Refreshments, and Music will not be offered.
Other Ministry Gathering Updates
Small Groups, Bible Studies, and other ministries of the church will continue to take place at the discretion of group leaders, but no one should feel obligated to attend, serve, or lead these gatherings if they do not feel comfortable doing so. We want everyone to take the precautions they feel are necessary.
Additionally, please avoid participation in any church function whether in people’s homes or at the church if you are sick, have recently been sick, or have traveled via airplane in the last two weeks, and please also adhere to the following policies:
- Avoid close contact with anyone who may be sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth as much as possible
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, before entering a gathering, after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Washing your hands with soap and water is superior to utilizing hand sanitizer when it comes to preventing the spread of infectious disease. However, hand sanitizer should also be utilized as available
- Those with compromised immune systems or underlying health issues should exercise additional caution.
What Can You Do?
We ask for your prayers for our world and community, specifically for those who are directly impacted by this virus; and for us as pastors, as we seek to lead the church in wisdom. We are also continuing to join you in prayer.
During this time you may submit prayer requests online by clicking here and if you have any particular needs please contact us at email@example.com. May God bless you and yours during this time, as we look to Jesus, the source of peace and hope.
