No one ever truly prepares moms for raising children. Yes, it’s a blessing to raise little ones, but it involves hard work and dedication. For the moms of Candlewood, there’s also encouragement and support from other moms in the church.
Once a month, on a Friday morning, moms throughout Candlewood grab their children’s hands and bags filled with toys, snacks, bibles, and journals. They then secure their children into car seats and drive to Mom’s Time, hosted by a Candlewood mom at her home.
In Omaha, as moms arrive with their little ones, donuts and the aroma of coffee await. Children join playtime in a different room while the moms listen to a message on parenting. After the message, they talk about it and discuss what they are working through as moms.
In Lincoln, moms read a chapter of A Mother’s Heart by Jean Fleming, a book that offers encouragement to moms as they raise their children. After the reading, they talk about the chapter and how it applies to their lives.
The moms of Candlewood take the opportunity at Mom’s Time to honestly share the struggles of motherhood such as teaching children to be respectful, kind, and obedient, something that is not always easy. They find common ground as they relate to one another. They also find comfort in knowing that they are not alone when the tasks of motherhood seem daunting.
Mom’s Time may only last a couple of hours, but it’s enough for the moms of Candlewood to form a bond that extends beyond a monthly meeting.
