A Place to Belong

When I first came to Candlewood, one of my biggest struggles was fear that I wouldn’t belong. I hadn’t had the easiest childhood, I had dropped out of college, and I was quickly becoming a person that I did not like. Coming to Candlewood allowed me to start anew and belong to a community of people who understood where I was coming from.

Women Connecting with Women (WCW) was an experience that altered my perception on the lives of Christian women. I thought that all of the women around me had their lives put together and really did not have any hardships… Boy, (Or should I say girl?) was I wrong! Here were these Christian women sharing their life stories of divorce, addiction, depression, and other struggles. What?!? I thought I was alone in that! But there was something different about the women, and I wanted to find out what it was.

So what is Women Connecting with Women? I couldn’t think of a perfect way to describe it, so I decided to ask a few of my friends for help…

“I enjoy WCW for a variety of reasons, but I love that it’s a place where women can come together, share struggles, laughter, and stories. And the food is delicious!” – Cindy

“I would describe it as a wonderful time together with other women and we get to have a meal together, we sing together, and we have this amazing time of being together.” – Kathryn

With a bit of help, this is what I came up with for my definition of Women Connecting with Women: WCW is a time of fellowship, food, and fun. It is a time to be together with like-minded women of every stage of life  who relate to each other on some level. Women Connecting with Women is a place of real women, safety, honesty, laughter, and some of the best food I have ever eaten. It is a place where I belong.

What is different about these women? They genuinely love each other like they were members of the same family. They genuinely care about what is going on in your life. They genuinely want to laugh with you when you are happy, and cry when you are sad. That genuine love comes from having their eyes firmly set on God; who He is, how He loves, and what He has done for us with Jesus.

Women Connecting with Women occurs once a month, on the first Thursday. We meet at the same location every month, and eat more food then should be legal.
